Taking a short reading break from my data-entry day, and it feels great to relocate my frame of thought into something bigger than farming methods. 😀
In the world today, or maybe in my world today, everyone’s moving here, there and everywhere, I do wonder if people still see it as relocating. Moving somewhere for a month, is that considered relocating? Probably not. Moving somewhere for half a year, is that relocating? I think so. Moving somewhere for three years, that is definitely relocating. Moving somewhere for five years or more? I see that as migrating already (maybe not, if it does not come with the documentation aspect).
I have learnt to “relocate” without the physical baggage these days. haha! My biggest relocation was in China – I bought my own furniture! Gorgeous sofa, TV console, cabinet, coffee table. I cannot even label it “relocation to China” because I brought nothing but my sunny Singapore clothes. The only thing symbolic of a relocation was when my best friend’s wife brought my favourite Forever Friends bear to cheer me up when I was (already) there.
In retrospect, it was hilarious. I bought all these stuff because I could not bear to sit on the furniture that came with the room. Not when I found chopsticks, hair, dust, and whatnots when I opened up the sofa(bed). I probably used the ready furniture not more than three times, when I hung out with KT (she was the previous resident who also had her own furniture). So I went crazy when they first brought me to the Chinese market where we went shopping for furniture for our work projects. Ended up buying the full set of white, and a carpet then slowly added the rest of the pieces over the years. My favourite is the sliding coffee table where we play with our zen toys over tea.
What I would really call a relocation was the move back to Singapore. It was a dramatic affair. Considering that I ran away “from home”, it was an amazing feat we pulled off, getting all these back to Singapore. Considering the conspirator snucked back home (she literally “flew by night”), it was helluva stunt we successfully pulled. Well, we were also, in a way, assisted by Divine Intervention – how brilliantly the whole plot unfolded. *HUGE PAT ON THE BACK* Strategists are strategists, I wonder if these traits are also carried over through all lives past, present and future. 😀
Oh gosh. What a breather to type these all out. 🙂
Heave a huge huge sigh of relief~ ❤
