The Return

The phone buzzed and the usual breakfast photo came in.

This one looks a little different. She studies the background. The well-worn grain of Japanese cedar looks as familiar as the artful tojiki bowl that held the muesli salad.

“Do I smell orchids in the background?” She types with steady hands, though her heart flutters incessantly.

“Right there where grus japonensis hangs.”
“Do you know Thailand has cranes as well? We filmed their reintroduction last evening.”

“Finally, hon, something new you discovered before I did.” She beams with pride.

The doorbell buzzes.
Her heart leaps up, and she beholds.

This is getting fun. Hahaha. I like prompts because they really make me research and find out things I never knew before. This is a really good one, thank you Charli Mills for the Flash Fiction Challenge.
