Liquidity of existence

In a parallel (or past) existence, I live in a wide universe of liquid salinity (or serenity). I have very lucid dreams of being in my natural habitat of an infinite waterbody all the time, almost like an escape from the land-locked world.

Being in water has always been a calming agent for me, and writing this post is good reminder that I get back into it again. I used to swim 2km a day when I was in uni. It was my way of chilling after a game of touch rugby in the heat or after bouts of sprinting for floorball indoors. I had no qualms jumping into any waterbodies when I was travelling around Australia, sometimes regretting only on hindsight of seeing the humongous fish (or tiny jellyfishes) when I got back on land. Water was my safe space for tuning out, where danger lurks nowhere other than when helicopters are overhead (symbolising possible presence of sharks).

Yet now, when I do water sports in the tropics, I wear rash guards for a simple reason – I was afraid of getting rashes (a little corny, but …) from the water with a layer of grease, floating trash, and weird things I prefer not to think about. I used to happily jump into any liquids in just my bikinis, whether it be open waters, or closed lakes and rivers. Now, I am always suspicious of the space around, looking out for an all-clear before sliding in.

Alright, I don’t want to end the post on such a low note. Here is a little reminiscence of happier days. The most memorable water adventure I had was swimming with wild dolphins in open waters where no land could be sighted. Following that, I had only gone on a few more dolphin boat trips, viewing from the dryness of boats. I want to swim with them again! Playful and cheeky fellow mammals in liquids. šŸ˜€ There are times too, I wonder if there is a sinister streak to their friendly appearance, like what they did below!

So long, and thanks for all the fish. šŸ˜‰

Boogie-boarding doesn’t take me into deep enough waters for a big enough shark to swim in … right … ? šŸ˜±šŸ˜± šŸ˜® šŸ˜® GASP!

Your writing makes me want to plunge into a river – or even a hot-tub right now; it’s cold here… We characterize animals into traits and assume they’re all the same. I have been stewing up a blog on uncharacteristic critters. You inspired me to finish it up :). Thanks for the follow.

Your blog caught my eye because the last one was a gluten-free recipe! Looking forward to your critters blog.
