Getting back into the swing of things~ I love horses! So of course I have to blog to today’s prompt Hobbyhorse – hehe horses as hobby. 🙂 🙂
The best thing that happened to me in my stint in Shanghai has to be the horses that lived just outside the island I was living on. They were my sanctuary when life got too hard. I would drive/cycle to the stable and talk to these gentle giants. During the cooler/colder seasons, I would ride on Sundays. It is a very very fruitful hobby to have.
Firstly, it is a great workout, I always feel very toned after that. Secondly, it is great relaxation, almost meditative! I love being led by the rhythm of the horse, or being in sync with such a gorgeous animal, and allowing my mind to shut down from everything else in the world. Thirdly, it is a huge boost to confidence when seated so high up and enjoying the broader perspective of all that is going on. The air is fresher up there! Fourthly, I get to feed them apples and carrots and cuddle their gentle little faces.
Point 3 was my favourite part of horse-riding. It really clears my mind and reminds me that there is a much larger world beyond my myopic view of what is immediately surrounding (suffocating) me.
I am also very extremely grateful to lovely friends who have been so supportive since my move back to Singapore (it’s been 6 years already!) and taking me to the horses now and then.
I have stopped riding but would love to pick it up again. And of course, at some point in my life (hopefully soon), I will have my very own horse(s). ❤
Will post pics when I locate my favourites from the old archives!
If you enjoy horses as much as I do, you will definitely enjoy Anne’s blog here, where the world is best viewed through the ears of a horse.
