Water lines

Took me a while to figure what kind of lines can astonish. I am pleasantly surprised to recall one such line – a Roman aqueduct in Segovia! Look at how massive a structure it took to convey water from one point to another. How fortunate are we today that we have pipes and pumps.

Dad and I sort of ‘broke up’ for the Madrid leg of the trip. 5 days in Madrid, of which 3 days are coach rides out to visit UNESCO World Heritage city sites, the other 2 days are 3 museum visits. I am not at all surprised he preferred shopping for jamon and other foodies for my siblings, and engaging in modern city activities instead. We met every evening to compare photos over dinner, and that sounded like a much better deal for us both.

I went really early in the morning so I could take a little detour to visit the La Granja (full name Palacio Real de La Granja de San Ildefonso). Photo-taking was not allowed inside the palace, so here are just the pics of the very French axial landscaping in the palace grounds. Grand copper sculptures, every one of them sculpted in a lively manner. The interior had amazing works – mural paintings on the walls, ceilings, amazing furniture and decorations.

Weather was better in the morning. Got gloomy as I headed back to the Segovia city. After weeks of visiting every city’s plaza mayor, la catedral, alcazar, etc, I decided to spend more time just enjoying the space, the scale, the environment, rather than examining architecture anymore.  So I spent the rest of the day roaming an ancient Roman city. ❤
