We have single-deck and double-decker buses in Singapore. I just have to use this photo because it was one of the earlier days when I first moved home, and I was utterly shocked to see this. Our buses are pretty much mobile billboards, but this obtrusive one takes it up a brand new level.
In earlier days, public buses were red and white. Those were the buses I was used to take to school. Then the public transportation sort of “privatised” and went through some sort of rebranding, and we had red, white and purple, in better streamlines. NOW, we have green buses – the green-wash kind of green-painted buses, not the environmental “green” kind of buses. It took a while for my eyes to get used to, but at least they were plain, simple green.
This one you see here is an advertisement, so loud that I had to take a photo of it. Axe brand oil, a two-storey bottle if it is life-sized! The magic oil is this clear liquid that we use for all sorts of stuff – insect bites, blocked nose, tummy ache, headaches, rheumatic pains, when the air is damp/humid/bad/stinky. You would probably be familiar with Tiger Balm. This oil is as multi-purpose as that, but more liquid, and I suppose more difficult to apply? It smells good / okay, but not as comforting as Tiger Balm. Maybe that is why it did not make it as big elsewhere.
Not sure whether this huge-ass bus advert is going to help with its marketing – the homegrown people are extremely familiar with it and using it for every bits and pieces of their (our) lives. Why do they bother? Are they barking up the wrong tree?

I think so, I don’t remember properly, it was so long ago… but I seem to remember some muggy humid times in buses in the afternoons when coming back home 🙂

I remember always choosing to wait for the next bus because the current one is either too crowded or non-airconditioned.

Love the photo. That is one big ad. Here in Utah, we only have single-deck buses, but they have been moving advertisements for a long time. My friend’s company used to have the contract for making the wraps for the buses, but now he just does highway/freeway billboards. 🙂 Thanks for joining the challenge!
